JEWEL IN THE CROWN

The Jewel in the Crown Project was a 12-week project funded by Tesco Groundwork and Sanctuary Community Investment. Our vision was to use jewellery making as a therapeutic tool to encourage regeneration and hard reaching groups to socialise, meet new people and learn new skills at the same time. The aim of these sessions was to provide activities that values and supports creative interventions in health improvement, and to foster motivation and excitement, whilst creating an atmosphere that was fun, informal and engaging. Such was its success and investment of participants that we continue to deliver the sessions post-project.  We believe that our project is a perfect tool, a comforting and uplifting, practise of self-care. Beyond the traditional uses of jewellery, as decoration, producing a tangible object also allows for self expression of creativity for participants. It plays a role in reducing stress and anxiety. Participants shared and enjoyed the creative experience that taught participants how being creative can impact positively on ones well-being. They increased their self awareness, were better equipped to deal with their personal problems; be they stress-related, induced by traumatic experience or some form of illness and also improved social skills and stimulated cognitive thinking. Such was its success and investment of participants that we continue to deliver the sessions post-project. Pictures below show our participants making some fabulous pieces. If you are interested in joining one of our sessions get in touch. Sessions are generally free providing you meet the criteria.
